    The challenge

WeAreSMS is a bulk messaging and engagement platform serving campaigns, alerts, and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) flows across multiple geographies. RudraX was engaged to build a self-serve, enterprise-grade messaging stack — covering contact management, compliance, sender Identifiers (IDs), pricing, and delivery analytics — while keeping the User Experience (UX) simple enough for non-technical marketers and operations teams.

The technical and product challenges spanned six dimensions:

    • Route complexity and pricing. Dynamic per-country and per-operator rates, credit bundles, and transparent cost previews — all needing to update in real time as users built their campaigns.

    • Data at scale. Large contact imports (hundreds of thousands of rows), de-duplication, segmentation, suppression and seed lists, plus high-volume sends without compromising performance.

    • Compliance and governance. Do Not Disturb (DND) handling, opt-out flows, consent capture, full audit logs, and governance around sender ID and template approval — non-negotiable for a regulated communications platform.

    • Reliability. Deliverability Service Level Agreements (SLAs), webhook retries with exponential backoff, idempotent Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and real-time Delivery Reports (DLRs).

    • Usability. Marketers needed a clean User Interface (UI) for campaigns, lists, and billing — with no engineering required to operate it.

    • Ecosystem fit. A WordPress marketing site that surfaced live Short Message Service (SMS) pricing to prospects, plus REST APIs and webhooks for partner systems consuming the platform programmatically.

    Our approach

RudraX delivered an end-to-end messaging platform engineered for compliance, scale, and operator-friendly usability:

Campaigns and Lists. An advanced list manager with Comma-Separated Values (CSV) and Microsoft Excel (XLSX) imports, automatic field mapping on the frontend, segments, tags, suppression and seed lists, de-duplication, and preview counts before every send.

Pricing and Credits. A dynamic per-route calculator factoring origin and destination, message length, Unicode versus Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM-7) encoding, and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) compliance — all with live credit and cost breakdowns. Admin rate cards, taxes, and bundle configurations are managed through a dedicated operations console.

Messaging Engine. A queue-backed sender with throughput controls, template variables, scheduled and recurring sends, sender ID management, and content checks (Unicode validation, length splitting, Uniform Resource Locator or URL tracking).

Compliance and Governance. Opt-in and opt-out flows, DND shielding, consent logs, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and immutable audit trails — designed to meet the regulatory expectations of multiple jurisdictions.

Delivery Intelligence. A real-time DLR dashboard with bounce code attribution, link-click tracking, cohort performance breakdowns, and exportable reporting for billing reconciliation and campaign optimisation.

APIs and Webhooks. REST endpoints for send and status, inbound Mobile Originated (MO) message handling, webhook retries with exponential backoff, and signed callbacks for partner integrity.

Admin Operations. Rate management, sender ID and template approvals, user credit administration, and a regression test suite to safeguard releases.

    The outcome

The platform launched and now operates as a production messaging stack for WeAreSMS's customers, with measurable impact across four dimensions:

    • Campaign setup time cut by over 60% through auto-mapping CSV imports, guided send flows, and live preview counts — replacing the manual coordination cycles that traditionally slow non-technical marketing teams.

    • Greater pricing transparency via the live per-route calculator and credit breakdown — meaningfully reducing billing disputes and the inbound support tickets that follow them.

    • Improved deliverability and customer trust through DND shielding, template governance, sender ID controls, and resilient webhook delivery — critical for retaining enterprise accounts in a category where one bad campaign can damage long-term sender reputation.

    • Plug-and-play growth potential through the REST APIs and webhook layer — allowing WeAreSMS to onboard partners and resellers who can trigger messages and consume DLRs at scale, without bespoke integration work for each new account.

The team at RudraX delivered exactly what we needed — fast. They understood the technical challenges of high-volume messaging and helped us build a system that scales.
